Cuba Landing Strip is owned by BLM, and is 4 miles south of Cuba, NM between County Road 11 and Highway 550. It was never really closed, but fell into disrepair until recently. It has now been graded by BLM, the edges mowed 10' either side of runway, and a new windsock has been installed.
As of 6/7/2020, the dirt runway surface was smooth. Runway 06/24 is 3800' long X 40' wide at an elevation of 6840'. The windsock is approximately mid-field on the south side of the runway.
Cautions: runway will be muddy after rain, 2' berms both sides of runway, cattle may be on or near runway, temporary parking area is the extreme NE end of runway, beyond the entrance road. Recommended for experienced backcountry pilots only. No prior permission required. FAA location ID is pending. Uber service is available in Cuba.

7/2/2020 Mowed margins along runway out to a wider point. Mowed north side of temporary parking/ tiedown area so tails can clear brush. Temporary parking area is east of the entrance road, along the dog leg section of the runway extension. Painted rocks of quasi segmented circle white so wind sock is easier to spot from the air. Runway surface remains smooth, but summer monsoon rains will soon be arriving, so use caution on timing of arrival and look for a muddy surface after recent rains.

Cuba Landing Strip is now registered with the FAA and has the location ID of NM2.
It may take up until October 8th to show up in databases, etc. Do not confuse this with NM02 Biplane Ranch. They are two separate airstrips. Apparently, FAA thinks 3 vs. 4 digits is OK.
