PIREPS - Airfields

Reserve Airport
Ron Keller

Stopped by Reserve Airport on 12-27-20.

The runway light project has not started yet, and no equipment was present.

The grass was nice and short in the picnic table area and along the camping area.

The fire ring is good and there is still firewood. Both windsocks are good.

There are no porta-potties so take your own. For runway snow conditions, call the county at

(575) 533-6423 and ask for Lou.

Ron Keller

There is now water available at or near the pumphouse. The hose may be inside if freezing temps remain. Otherwise, the hose will be next to or coiled on the side of the pumphouse. The runway lighting project should be starting soon. I am told the contractor will bore under the runway, so there may not be any runway closures. Check NOTAMs. Also, we expect site prep to begin soon for a pilots/visitors lounge on the airport.

Ron Keller

7-20-21 Stopped by Reserve Airport to re-stain the picnic tables, and to check on the progress of a runway lighting project.

Reserve is closed by NOTAM through 9-13-21, but the contractor is certain they will finish the project early. Great progress has been made. I anticipate the NOTAM will be cancelled early so it will not impact our NMPA Gila Regional Fly-in. The airport manager is well aware of our fly-in schedule.

Ron Keller

The final walk-thru inspection was conducted on 8-31, and final cleanup and X removal is being done this week. The NOTAM for airport closure will be cancelled upon completion, in plenty of time for our Gila Regional Fly-in.

Ron Keller

The NOTAM was cancelled on 9-3-21, and the airport is now open. I was told the runway lights work, but night arrivals could be tricky due to the surrounding terrain. Both windsocks are new and bright.

Ron Keller

5-27-22 Landed runway 25. Both windsocks good. Some vegetation growing on the centerline of the runway.

Pumphouse was locked, so no access to water. Picnic tables OK. There may be construction soon for the pilots/visitors lounge

per the county manager.

Ron Keller

As of 8-28-22... Runway 07/25 looked to be in excellent shape. Edges of runway were mowed, edges of taxiway were mowed, and picnic table area was in progress of being mowed. Also, the aircraft parking ramp is supposed to be trimmed. Both windsocks were good.

Ron Keller

As of 9-25-23

The runway was good. Disregard the yellow Xs at each end. They are left over from years ago when USFS took over the airport for firefighting. I will try to convince the county to paint over them again. Both windsocks are good. The concrete has been poured for the foundation of the new pilots' lounge.

Ron Keller

The building was successfully moved to the airport today, 9/27/23!

It is unknown how soon utilities will be connected, so please be patient. It took 6 years to get this far.

There will likely be a work party for the pilots' lounge at some point in the near future.

Andrew Rivas

I stopped at Reserve airport yesterday March 18th. Runway in great shape, no snow. Walked around new building, looks nice. Appears no utilities hooked up. Building was locked.

Ron Keller

Both windsocks are good. The building is unlocked, but there are not any utilities yet, so find a tree.

The county will provide porta potties for the NMPA sponsored fly-ins, June and Aug (Labor Day).

The grass is mowed nicely for airplane camping along the taxiway. Construction should start this summer on the new AWOS.

Cell service is good with Verizon.

Ron Keller

From 11/5/24

Landed at Reserve. Both windsocks good. The runway lights have been repaired and are working on CTAF, 3, 5, 7 clicks.

The AWOS construction has been delayed, probably until spring 2025. The final archaeological report was provided to the county in November, so they can put out a bid to buy the equipment, then another bid to construct and install. Still no working toilets until the lounge is remodeled, hopefully also before summer.
